About us as Yorkie Breeder
As a yorkie breeder for more than 9 years now I have learned so many things from my yorkies as well as people in general, just from dealing with the public. My first yorkie came from my mother who had 2 and bred them to get one litter. That led to a few more litters and then she too is a breeder, but doesn't have more than 4 yorkies at one given time. I took my yorkie home at 4 weeks old due to her mother's milk being bad and my mother couldn't care for all of them. We named her Trixie and she became part of our family immediately. Trixie is still with us and we love almost like one of our children. Next we decided to purchase our own little male and went to great extremes to find one that seemed right for our family. We found a male yorkie who was about 8 weeks old in Morgaton, NC and I couldn't wait to get my hands on him. Of course my children and I argued about who was going to hold him first on the ride home :) We named this little yorkie boy Gabriel and he became a huge part of our family as well. Over the years we have purchased yorkies and kept some of our own due to our lines being they have wonderful temperments and are healthy yorkies. Our puppies started with Gabriel and Trixie and has grown to being so many of their grandkids Grandpups and great grand puppies and even one great great grand puppy that we are now raising at 3 months old, we are calling her Jitterbug, she will have a page soon of her own. Our yorkie family also consist of others we have purchased after ressarch to make sure our dogs are healthy and not inbred. Our yorkie puppies come with AKC paperwork, up to date shots, wormings, puppy food, puppy care form, a one year health guarantee and are vet checked before they leave in most instances. WE dock our yorkies tails and have their dew claws removed at a few days old. They are very socialized with our family that includes children and adults and are also very socialized with other yorkies as we allow them to play together in the yard at times and in the house at times. We live in the country in western NC (about an hour north of Charlotte, NC) so our baby yorkies are born into a very relaxed, loving environment where they are with mom for about 6 to 7 weeks depending on the mother. The yorkie puppies are handled from day one and are very used to human contact as we are very near them on a daily basis. Our puppies are ready to go to their new homes, in most caaes around 8 weeks old or once their teeth is in and they are no longer nursing on mom. I have read online where some breeders think we are terrible for letting our yorkies go that soon, They think we should keep them until they are 3 months old or longer. However, in my personal opinion and from watching them over the years, keeping the yorkie puppies until they are 3 months old is too hard on the puppy. They need to be bonding with their new family, not me. I will not be the one giving them a forever home, I bond with them already during the 8 weeks they are here, to prepare them for their new families, I think it is critical that a yorkie puppy bond with their new family no later than 10 weeks.
Non the less, i am not here to argue, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. WE love our yorkies and care for them and I just couldn't imagine my life without one or two...
